I have been asked several times what inspired me to start Sevarat. And I recount the turning point in my life when I was disturbed by the helplessness I felt when I had a demanding career and my mother suddenly fell ill. It was a rollercoaster ride for our family and I was particularly dismayed with the unavailability of compassionate caretakers to look after my mother in our absence. Over those months, I delved deeper into the problems faced by the older persons and realized that they really have very few options to tide over such situations when they are unwell.

Like Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see”, so I launched Sevarat without any clue of how it will be accepted. I simply held on to my belief that if we do it right, it will turn out right. Since then, we have served over 650000 man days (as of Mar 2023) and become the trail blazers of serving the older persons with compassion and dignity.

My team and I are committed to live up to our name of ‘being in service’ to the older persons by providing timely, reliable and professional services to meet every single need of the older persons within their own homes and fulfil our motto of “We do ordinary tasks with extraordinary love”

Sevarat Initiatives: World Cancer Day

Sevarat Healthcare and Nursing Pvt Ltd has been serving the older persons in Goa by providing healthcare services at home from 2016. As a part of their continuous efforts to serve the society and especially the ailing and lonely older persons , the World Cancer Day was observed on 4th Feb 2020. Panjim Corporator Mr Surendra Furtado; Dr Eugene Rent – Surgical Oncologist; Dr Caeteana Moniz – Lymphedema Therapist; Dr Manish Singh- Physiotherapist and Mrs Prashanti Talpankar- Cancer Survivor were the invitees.

Mr Surendra Furtado, in his address spoke about the challenges of avoiding cancer causing factors like getting organic vegetables, fresh fish and living an active healthy life. Dr Eugene Rent expressed his satisfaction that now the cancer cure team is completed with the creation of the support group. He mentioned how vital it is for cancer patients to have the support and encouragement from other survivors. Mrs Prashanti Talpankar regaled the audience with her cancer story. Her story was full of humour and strength. She left the room inspired with her undying love for living happily while fighting cancer. Dr Moniz and Dr Singh also shared how physiotherapy is an important element of cancer treatment.

World Senior Citizens Day 2018

Celebrated on Aug 21 every year World Senior Citizens Day is a very special day for us at Sevarat. Aug 21, 2018 marked the first such celebration organized by Sevarat. It began with the inauguration of Sevarat Vahan by the then Hon. Speaker of the Goa State Assembly – Dr Pramod Sawant. It is a one of its kind 15 seater fully air conditioned wheelchair enabled vehicle. The purpose of the Sevarat Vahan is to enable families with wheelchair bound persons to travel together anywhere across Goa. This initiative was well appreciated by Dr Sawant in his speech after which he flagged of the Seniors Parade. This was a short walk along the Miramar- Dona Paula Road where persons above the age of 60 carried balloons and released them with child-like mirth and joyfulness.

World Senior Citizens Day 2019

Keeping with the tradition of the Seniors Parade, in 2019, Sevarat organized the walk from Odxel towards Dona Paula. The walk culminated with a gathering of the participants at the Goa International Centre, Dona Paula. The Hon IT minister Mrs Jennifer Monseratte was the guest of honour who also walked along with the participants and applauded their spirit and enthusiasm. Students of the People’s School presented a cultural program to entertain the gathering. This was followed by a Bachata dance tutorial by Shai N Dance Academy.

On this day we launched a new initiative called Sevarat Karma- This is an initiative to encourage adults of any age group to register with Sevarat as Volunteers to offer their time to visit and provide older persons an opportunity for social engagement. They would earn Karma Points in return to be monetized in multiple ways.

World Senior Citizens Day 2020

Due to the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, we were unable to engage in any celebration in 2020.

World Senior Citizens Day 2021

It was the special day again. Although there were restrictions on conducting gatherings, we decided to take the celebration home to all our customers. The Sevarat team visited each and every person with a bag of goodies. They were overjoyed with the thoughtfulness of the gesture and indulged in our affection and the healthy eats we brought them.

World Senior Citizens Day 2022

Aug21, 2022 has been etched in history forever. It was the momentous day when we created a WORLD RECORD with the largest gathering of older adults performing a Goan Folk Dance.

436 persons above the age of 60 from across the state of Goa came together and performed on a beautiful choreography supported by the resounding folk music by the folk artists from Ponda, Goa. A day long practice session ended with a stupendous performance which was followed by more dancing and celebration of having created history. Each participant took home not only the certificate but an immense sense of achievement to have participated in this world record. They were left with a palpable feeling of accomplishment.
